Single-candle pattern · bearish bias
Gravestone Doji candlestick pattern
A gravestone doji opens and closes at or near the session low, with a long upper wick. Buyers pushed price higher but sellers erased all of it by the close.
How to identify it
- Open, close and low at or very near the same level.
- A long upper wick.
- No meaningful lower wick.
Where it matters: Appears after an advance, near a high.
What it means
A full rejection of higher prices. After an advance it has a bearish bias.
What confirms it
A next candle closing below the gravestone's low.
What invalidates it
A close above the gravestone's high.
Common mistakes
- Using it at the bottom of a decline, where its meaning is different.
- Ignoring confirmation.
