Spinning Top candlestick pattern
A spinning top has a small body in the middle of its range with wicks above and below. It shows a session with movement in both directions and little net progress.
How to identify it
- A small real body.
- Upper and lower wicks of similar length.
- A body clearly larger than a doji's.
Where it matters: Can appear anywhere; most relevant after a strong move.
What it means
Momentum is slowing and the market is undecided.
What confirms it
The next candle's direction.
What invalidates it
It is neutral, so there is no fixed invalidation on its own.
Common mistakes
- Overreading spinning tops in quiet markets where they are common.
Frequently asked questions
Is a spinning top bullish or bearish?
Neither on its own. It signals indecision.
Spinning top vs doji?
A spinning top has a small but visible body. A doji has almost none.
